One of the many benefits of working at Saint Mary’s Fitness Center is access to clubs like Tri-Club, Striders’ and Master Swim. It’s no surprise that I am a marketing specialist for a place that focuses on health, fitness and wellness. I live and breathe a healthy lifestyle, though always striving to become better.
Working at Saint Mary’s surrounds me with inspiring people who are like-mined and love living a healthy lifestyle just as much as I do. We prep together, and motivation is all around us.
Summer is just around the corner and I am prepping for my next challenge.
Lately, I have attended Dana Ginsberg’s BRIK class. If you do not know what BRIK means – it’s a form of training that helps build endurance.
We start out on the bikes spinning through different drills. We do this for about 5 to 10 minutes, then switch to the treadmills to run like hell – then back on the bike for more drills. This form of training is great preparation for race day.
To prep for the swim is a different adventure. Again, I am in Ginsberg’s Master Swim class; she is guiding me on my stroke and breathing techniques. Even though I have been swimming like a fish since a tiny child, this training is an important step in having a successful swim during a triathlon.
There is a lot that goes into preparing for a Triathlon and having the right kind of coaches is crucial. It is also important to have all the right gear.
This year I am planning to race in the Tahoe Triathlon, and just typing that gave me butterflies! I may even do the Donner Lake Triathlon if there is time. These won’t be my first and they certainly won’t be my last!
Whether you are training for you first 5k, 10k, marathon, or triathlon, there are people in the Reno area that can help you reach your goals!
