I have talked a lot about my trips backpacking on the American River. I often mention how they inspire deep thinking and clearing of the mind. This particular trip had me pondering about what really matters in life. Which was inspired by a man named Chuck.

When I was little, one of the family trips I remember was to Mammoth, California. My parents were skiers and so they loved traveling to this central-Californian town to spend weekends skiing all over Mammoth Mountain. As for us kids, who were all too little at the time to ski, we looked forward to sledding down those white fluffy hills. The memories of sledding down the mountains in Mammoth have a special spot in my mind as some of the most memorable moments of my childhood.
I love traditions; they keep me connected with others, enrich my life and remind me that I always have something to be grateful for. When I was in high school, a friend and I decided we were going to start our own Fourth of July tradition.
As we drove east out-of-town one Friday afternoon, I was finally feeling relaxed. My husband and I were heading to Soldier Meadows Hot Springs for a weekend of quiet and to recharge our minds, bodies and spirits.
In preparation for the Ironman, I have read different blogs and newsletters about the how to overcome each part of the race. My goal is to be well-informed and to practice good habits while training. I am doing this so that my Ironman experience is amazing and potentially help someone else along the way.
The Schell Creek Mountain range on the southeastern side of Ely, Nevada may not be a nationally known hiking region, but I can tell you that its day will come. It is a breath-taking area that is gorgeously alive. On this particular trip, Erik and I hiked a mountain known as the Kolcheck Basin.
Despite the amount of planning, our lives inevitably take on the course God has planned for us. The same can be said for planning hikes.
We may be diligent when it comes to planning the particulars of a hike, but once we get out into the wilderness, there are too many elements that are out of our control. One specific hike, which included roadblocks, weird creatures and life realizations, immediately comes to mind.
Throughout the process of heavy endurance training it’s important to remember practicing self-care. It’s easy to get lost in completing your weekly required training: swimming, biking, running, and strength training. It’s easy to forget about all the bodies needs.
In creating this blog I aim to educate as well as inspire. As I write about my trips into the mountains, I always find myself inspired by being out in the vast serenity.
After many years of trial and error, I have learned some simple tips that help me avoid being uncomfortable while trying to soak in the beauty of the outdoors.
In addition to my hiking habit, I also enjoy running. Having ran one full marathon and more than a dozen half marathons, I am eager to keep pushing myself in competitive running. I often seek out new place to run my heart out.
